b & d wedding: getting ready and the first look

Tuesday, I shared some photographs of "the details before" our wedding. I am a lover (obsessor) of small details; BHLDN easily fed that addiction during my planning. Collecting little treasures for the day was one of my most favorite parts of the process.

Getting ready on the top floor of the Hotel Monteleone with my closest friends and family was so, so fun. I ate a healthy diet of Zapp's Voodoo Chips and champagne, and all was well. 

Our first look was filled with happy tears and so many smiles that our cheeks started hurting. My favorite part was when I gave Blaine a letter, and he mistakenly read aloud the last line as "Love, your bride, Blaine." It was perfect.

adventures in grilling: jalapeno poppers

Grilling is one of our favorite summertime activities.  With my husband's busy schedule, it is so nice to find some time to sit by the pool, talk about our day, and cook dinner together. 

Last night, we tried a new Texas-inspired recipe: Bacon-Wrapped Cheddar Jalapeño Poppers. 

Buyer Beware: Those jalapeño seeds will make your hands, nose, lips, eyes, (anything and everything) burn like the dickens for hours on end. 

Bacon-Wrapped Cheddar Jalapeño Poppers


12 jalapeño peppers, cut in half, seeds and veins removed
12 slices of thick-cut bacon
1/2 cup of cream cheese
1/2 cup of shredded sharp cheddar cheese
2 skewers

Mix cream cheese and cheddar cheese together in a bowl until evenly blended. Fill each jalapeño half with the cheese mixture and then wrap with 1/2 slice of bacon. Place 6 jalapeños on each skewer and grill until slightly-charred and bubbly.
